Sam Smith cancels tour after suffering vocal cord haemorrhage

Sam Smith has pulled the rest of his current Australia tour after suffering a vocal cord haemorrhage.

The singer confirmed the news on Instagram today (April 28).

The Brit suffered the injury whilst performing recently in Sydney.

Smith wrote: "I am deeply, deeply saddened to tell my Australian fans, I have to cancel my Australian tour.

"I have been vocally exhausted for a while now however last night in Sydney I had a small haemorrhage on my vocal cords. The doctors have told me I need to fully rest until my vocal chords have healed, otherwise this could become a huge long-term issue.

"I am so sorry to all who have bought tickets, I truly am. This kills me."

The cancellations amount to four shows being pulled. They are as follows:

  • April 28 - Hordern Pavilion, Sydney
  • April 30 - Margaret Court Arena, Melbourne
  • May 1 - AEC Theatre, Adelaide, SA
  • May 4 - HBF Stadium
