Sam Smith 'high on pain medication' after having surgery

'Stay With Me' sensation Sam Smith went under the knife earlier today after recently suffering a vocal cord haemorrhage and has revealed that he's recovering well although he's 'high on painkillers'.

Following the operation, the vocal sensation took to his official Twitter page to reassure fans that everything went well and he wrote: "Just woken up from op. I'm high on pain killers and listening to Whitney Houston hahahahaha."

Because of the nature of Smith's surgery, he is now unable to speak for the next three weeks and has to take it easy while his throat and voice both recover. Last month, he confessed that he has started work on his next album and teased that he already knows what the main themes of the record are likely to be:

"I love it when people think I'm a woman, it's a huge compliment. All I do is listen to female voices. That means my voice has been massively influenced by who I listen to. I feel like I've already got the concept for the next record worked out, I've written a few songs that I'm really excited about but I don't want to release anything until it's perfect. But I'm constantly writing music."
