Sam Smith celebrates incredible sales of 'In The Lonely Hour'

British singer-songwriter Sam Smith is celebrating an amazing career milestone this evening as he has just been told that his debut album has sold 8 million copies.

'In The Lonely Hour' was released just over a year ago and he took to his official Twitter page this evening to share the incredible news with his followers, writing: "I have just found out I have sold 8 FUCKING MILLION records of 'In The Lonely Hour' WHAT THE HELL."

Smith, meanwhile, also recently confessed to BBC Radio 1 that he's easing himself back into singing after undergoing throat surgery for a vocal cord haemorrhage: "I've just been like singing in the shower and stuff. I'm just trying to take it slow... It's like a blessing in disguise to have this break. But at the same time it killed me to cancel all these shows."

He will return to touring on July 3, which is a gig at Thetford Forest in England. Speaking about the upcoming show, he said: "As you can see, I can speak again for the first time in three weeks. It’s been horrible, and sitting in silence and knowing I should be doing shows has killed me."

"But finally, I have some good news. And it's that I should be starting all my shows from July 3 and it’s all as planned. I’m going to try my absolute best to sing my heart out every night, but please bear with me as always."
