Sam Smith donates 'Lay Me Down' violin to charity effort

Sam Smith has given a violin that featured in one of his music videos to a charity drive.

London jazz club Ronnie Scott's are inviting people to donate unwanted instruments that will then be given to school kids in the UK and abroad.

The collection will take place at the iconic venue on Saturday (July 11).

However, singer Sam Smith has already got in on the action by giving a white violin used in his 'Lay Me Down' video to the charity effort.

The drive has been organised in conjunction with Sistema England and Music Fund EU.

Among the instruments accepted are brass, woodwind, string and percussion items.
