Sam Smith on post-surgery life: 'I just feel so much stronger'

Hitmaker Sam Smith has revealed that going under the knife to save his voice after suffering a vocal cord haemorrhage was a frightening thing to do, but something that really paid off.

The vocal sensation spoke to BBC Radio 2's Ken Bruce earlier this morning and confessed that everything about the surgery was terrifying so he's now incredibly thankful and grateful that his voice has returned and everything can go back to normal:

"It was. It was a worry just because I hate cancelling shows and disappointing people and that was horrible, but in terms of my health and my voice it was actually a massive blessing in disguise. I went to the throat doctor who looked after Adele and saved Julie Andrews' voice and I was in really good hands. So I never doubted that my voice would come back, it was just the pain of having to reschedule stuff. And even now it's just changed the way I feel about my voice. I'm a bit more scared than normal which is a good thing I guess."

When asked if the surgery has changed the way he sings, the 'Lay Me Down' superstar admitted that he feels as though it has benefitted his vocals hugely: "I just feel stronger in the way that I'm singing. So yeah, it's more reliable."
