Sam Smith has voiced his support for World AIDS Day.

The day is taking place on Tuesday (December 1) and it aims to raise awareness of the disease.

Speaking on Instagram, vocal star Smith said the plight of those with AIDS is close to his heart.

The Brit said: "Everybody please support and donate & just take a minute today to pray for all of those suffering from aids and their families.

"My thoughts and heart is forever with all of you and I'll continue to do all I can with so many - to fight this, in every way xx www.worldaidsday.org."

Smith meanwhile recently opened up in an interview about the current state of his love life.

He said: "Before I'd think I'd want it to be more romantic, but I just want to hang out now. That's kind of it, just hang out."

"[It's difficult because] you maybe don’t know people's intentions...At the same time I have never had a boyfriend in my life. So I don't know any different. So that's kind of a blessing I guess."
