Selena Gomez: 'Filming 'Rudderless' helped me deal with my everyday madness'

'Come & Get It' beauty Selena Gomez has confessed that digging deep emotionally on the set of her latest movie, 'Rudderless', was cathartic for her and she loved the challenge of playing a darker role.

Speaking to E! about the project, which is about a father who discovers his dead son's music and forms a band in order to help him grieve (Gomez plays the deceased boy's girlfriend), she explained that she was "drawn" to the film because of it's heavy nature:

"I'm just drawn to this kind of stuff. There's a sense of freedom that I'm given in the indie world where I can just go and play and be a part of a really great cast. These crews, they really love what they're doing. That's just fun to be able to step into."

She added to Newsday that shooting the parts she's featured in ended up helping her to cope with "the everyday madness that I've got to go through".
