Selena Gomez believes she lost focus of who she was before entering rehab earlier this year.

The singer revealed in February that she spent some time at the Dawn at the Meadows centre in Arizona in January.

The visit is not thought to have been substance related, with the centre focusing on younger people "struggling with emotional trauma, addiction or dual diagnosis concerns".

Speaking at the We Day California event in Oakland on Wednesday (March 26), Gomez suggested that she was trying to be someone else before her rehab trip.

The US star said: "You all have pressure that you have to deal with every day - with school, with work, with friends, with parents, with family. They tell me what to wear, how to look, what I should say, how I should be.

"Until recently I had given into that pressure, I lost sight of who I was. I listened to opinions of people and I tried to change who I am because I thought others would accept me for it. And I realised I don't know how to be anything but myself."
