Selena Gomez on starring in 'Rudderless': 'I was vulnerable and it was uncomfortable'

Singer and actress Selena Gomez has opened up about starring in the new movie 'Rudderless', which sees her venture away from the genres on film she has worked on in the past, and confessed that it made her feel more 'vulnerable'.

'Rudderless' is about a father who discovers his dead son's music and forms a band in order to help him grieve, and Gomez plays the deceased boy's girlfriend. It is due to be released on October 17

Speaking to MTV News about being in such an emotionally driven role, the beauty explained that she initially felt uncomfortable with letting her guard down in such a way, but she's also figuring out how to deal with certain emotions in her own life so working on the movie was helpful:

"It's uncomfortable but because I was so used to spending four years in comedy, whether or not it was a lesser version on some level I had to just project so much and be very open and being vulnerable and dealing with things is something I can relate to right now because I am figuring out how to deal with all those emotions."

"I think I'm wanting to continue down where my heart into where my heart is taking me. So I'm literally now in a position where if I am not in love with the character, if I don't feel like it will push me I don't want to be a part of it."
