Selena Gomez: 'I'm still trying to figure out my true self'

Selena Gomez has admitted that she is still in the process of discovering her true identity.

The 22-year-old singer went to a rehab facility at the turn of the year and she has largely kept out of the music spotlight for much of 2014.

Speaking however in a new interview on the Ellen DeGeneres Show on Monday (October 13), Gomez said that she is still on the road to self-fulfilment.

When asked to rate herself on a scale of one to ten with regards to how she has dealt with maturing into adulthood, Gomez replied:

"I'm a seven. I feel like I have been doing this for so long that people are like, 'Be yourself, be yourself', and I'm still trying to figure out who that is. I know I'm not perfect, but I know that I have a lot of people that support me and love me. I don't want to let anyone down so I just try to be the best I can be. It's awkward being 20."

Speaking meanwhile about recently becoming a homeowner for the first time, the singer - who bought a pad in Los Angeles - said:

"Honestly, I just enjoy not being able to have to check in all the time. My mom is the sweetest ever, so even now she checks in on me. She's like, 'I see online you're here. are you OK?' and I'm like, 'I'm fine, mom, I promise!' But I think that's just the best thing, being able to go into my own space."
