Selena Gomez's new single has made a considerable impact on the US iTunes chart.

The singer surprised fans on Thursday (November 6) by debuting the new song 'The Heart Wants What It Wants'.

The tune came with an emotional accompanying video as Gomez returned to the music scene after a number of months out of the limelight.

At the time of writing, the song is No.2 on the US iTunes chart.

It is only topped by One Direction's freshly released track 'Ready to Run'.

'The Heart Wants What It Wants' meanwhile will feature on Gomez's upcoming record 'For You'.
