'Good For You' songstress Selena Gomez has opened up about the period in her life when she wore a purity ring to represent her decision not to have sex until marriage. 

During a new interview with the Sunday Times, the beauty opened up about her decision to wear it and confessed that she's not ashamed of her past and she also isn't ashamed that she eventually felt ready to remove it:

"I’m not embarrassed to say that. I’m also not embarrassed to say that the ring has come off."

"I got it when I was 13 and I respect so much what it represented, but it isn’t for everyone.”

She went onto add that she was ridiculed for wearing the ring, but wanted to remain true to herself so didn't let the criticism change her values: “Sometime you have to lie to yourself to get through the criticism, and then you’re in your closet crying. It has been like that for me a couple of times. But I only want to learn from those things.”
