Selena Gomez says dealing with love split in public was 'violating'

Singer Selena Gomez has revealed that she felt "violated" after breaking up with Justin Bieber and has only just begun enjoying the spotlight again now that she has more control over her career.

During a new interview with Wonderland magazine, the beauty confessed that the period of time following her split from Bieber was very tough because the media was so intrusive: "It was very violating and I think it was such an outlet for me to talk about how I see things."

Gomez explained that working on her new album was liberating because she had so much freedom that came in many different forms: "Honestly, it's the first time somebody said: 'So what do you want to do?' and I literally had no idea what I wanted to do because I didn't have anyone to fall back on. I wasn't asking Disney, I wasn't asking anyone. It was going to be solely me. And at this point there had been so many people talking about my life."

The 'Good For You' star will release her highly anticipated new studio album 'Revival' on October 9 and recently told Ryan Seacrest that it works as a whole piece:

"That was kind of what I started off 'Revival' as — as some sort of story. I mean that album for [Christina] was incredible. Like “Beautiful,” “Can’t Hold Us Down”… That’s the stuff that I love. That was an album, that was complete. On my record, I have “Rise,” “Survivors,” “Revival,” “Kill Em With Kindness.” Like my stuff is an album, it’s a piece, it’s something that I’m proud of.”
