Selena Gomez hoping to turn lupus battle into a positive for fans

Selena Gomez says she wants to turn her lupus condition from a "negative into a positive" for fans also suffering from the condition.

The singer recently confirmed speculation that she had lupus, revealing that she previously had chemotherapy for it.

Symptoms of the condition range from mild to serious, with it mainly affecting the skin. Lupus erythematosus, however, can harm the organs.

Speaking on the Today Show on Monday (October 12), Gomez said that she hopes to inspire fans currently suffering from lupus.

She said: "To be honest, it still kind of makes me a little uncomfortable to talk about it.

"I feel like I'm able to reach my fans and understand people when I am one on one with them, and they're kind of dealing with the same thing, cause I've been there.

"I'm trying to take something that maybe is negative and turn it into a positive."

Gomez appeared on the popular US TV show to promote her new album 'Revival', which was released on October 9.

She performed 'Good For You' and 'Same Old Love'.
