Selena Gomez: 'I don't want people to just see me as a celebrity'

'Hands To Myself' sensation Selena Gomez has revealed that it took her a few years to feel comfortable enough to say no to things that she didn't believe in and is finally very happy to be pursuing the career she genuinely wants.

Speaking to Marie Claire magazine, the beauty explained that she finally felt confident enough to embrace her true desires and is now enjoying doing projects that feel authentic to her:

"I finally just wanted to go for it. I wanted to do things that I knew were going to be me. I don't want people to look at me as someone who is just this celebrity person."

As previously reported, she also spoke to the magazine about the importance of authenticity, adding: "Authenticity is my life. They (agents and managers) make great choices, but I make the decisions. I had to not be afraid to ask dumb questions, which means I asked a million things about ever single step that I was making."
