Selena Gomez excited about "dark" new movie role

Selena Gomez, who is best known for her Disney roles, has opened up about her excitement at playing a dark character in a new upcoming movie called 'Spring Breakers'.

The teen sensation caught her big break while working on the Disney Channel's hit show 'Wizards of Waverly Place' and has since moved on to motion pictures, most recently 'Monte Carlo', but she has now signed up to star in Harmony Korine's latest project. She explained:

"I watched all of his films. I had to fight for that role because I flew to his house in Nashville and watched all his movies. I was like, 'I want to be in your movie' and he auditioned me for like an hour or two hours and it was awesome. Then I got the part so I am excited."

"It is something that is very dark and is very different and I am excited to be able to work with him. Of course, he is the person that is going to create all of this and he is going to help me and James Franco, Vanessa (Hudgens), Emma (Roberts)... They are all going to be so great to work against and the script is (great). People are going to be a little surprised."

The 19-year-old recently axed a string of concerts after her mother, Mandy Teefey, suffered a miscarriage and has now taken to social networking site Facebook to thank fans for their support through this difficult time:

"Belated Merry Christmas everybody.. I can't thank you enough for all of your thoughts and prayers. We appreciate every one of you.. I love you all so much and we hope you and your family had a beautiful Christmas! Love, Me, Momma, Brian and our guardian angel Scarlett. God bless."
