Selena Gomez: "I want to take myself seriously as an actress"

Selena Gomez has opened up on her acting career and revealed why she accepted her role in new film Spring Breakers.

Gomez stars alongside the likes of James Franco in the film, which deals with a group of girls who encounter a drug dealer.

Speaking to Interview magazine, Gomez said that she felt her roles were getting "kind of repetitive" and something like Spring Breakers offered something a little bit different.

She added that she wants to "take herself seriously as an actress". She said:

"It was getting kind of repetitive in terms of the roles I was picking, and I really wanted to do something that was completely different. It was a mark thing for me - like, 'This is what I want to be doing.' I want to take myself seriously as an actress, and this was definitely a stretch."
