Selena Gomez avoided "bashing" Justin Bieber on new album

Selena Gomez didn't want to "bash" Justin Bieber on her new album.

The singer-and-actress has been working on her hotly-anticipated release for much of the past year.

Producer Jason Evigan insists Gomez's much talked-about split from Canadian superstar Bieber won't be referenced in the tracks - despite rumours of the contrary.

Speaking to MTV News: "She didn't really want to talk about the Justin stuff too much in her music. She didn't want to bash him. She never wanted to write songs about him."

Fans assumed Gomez was singing about her ex beau on single 'Rule The World' but Evigan explains this wasn't the case.

He added: "And I think that's why it's funny 'cause even the song 'Rule the World,' it sounded like afterward, it sounded like it was written about that. And I think she was upset about it because she didn't want to write a song about 'You broke my heart.' She's empowering.

"She wants to be empowering for these girls not to dwell on guys when guys break your heart. She's super uplifting, positive, amazing person who's, spiritually, she's really strong. And she's a really cool girl. I think she's gonna have a great year for her."
