Jesse McCartney is "flattered" by the fact he was Selena Gomez's high school crush.

In a magazine interview last year brunette beauty Gomez admitted she could relate to her then-boyfriend Justin Bieber's fans as she had a teenage crush too.

Singer-and-actor McCartney revealed to Access Hollywood this week: “That’s very flattering. I love Selena. She’s amazing, she’s a great little singer.

“[A friend told me,] ‘Dude, you need to date her! This is your in.’ Selena is a sweetie, I met her like a month ago at a studio, she’s very sweet.”

In the interview, Gomez explained that she understood Bieber's millions of teenage admirers.

She told Glamour magazine: "I adore his fans. I would never, ever want to disrespect them. You know, I get it: I was obsessed with Jesse McCartney growing up!"

She added: "He was my world. My high school crush. So I respect it, and if anything, I admire it."
