Simon Cowell has responded to comparisons made between the Beatles and One Direction.

The 'What Makes You Beautiful' stars have been compared to the Fab Four ever since they arrived in America to a hero's welcome - much like the Beatles did in the 1960s.

Harry Styles recently told Top of the Pops magazine that whilst he thinks One Direction aren't in the same league musically, their fame could be grander than the Beatles'.

Cowell was asked by Entertainmentwise if he thinks his group have a bigger fanbase than John Lennon and co., to which he replied:

"I never really thought about that. I have no idea. They're popular..."

The music mogul concluded: "No, they were the No1 selling album last year, so we're happy with that."
