Simon Cowell has praised Nick Grimshaw as rumours of the radio DJ landing a judging role on the X Factor intensify.

The BBC Radio 1 is one of the leading names in contention for this year's panel.

Speaking to The Sun, X Factor supremo Cowell said that Grimshaw already has a "right" to feature on the programme.

He said: "I think anyone who works in the business, and loves music, has a right to be on this show.

"Nick loves artists and music, that’s what I love about him. I like the fact he’s from the North so he represents them."

Rita Ora is another name hotly linked with the X Factor.

Olly Murs and Caroline Flack will host the 2015 programme.
