Simon Cowell irked by 1D members' solo careers: "Sorry for making you famous"

Music mogul Simon Cowell has suggested that he's a little surprised and perhaps disappointed by the route the former One Direction members have taken with their solo careers.

Liam Payne signed a solo deal with Capitol Records, Harry Styles is currently working on his first feature film "Dunkirk", Niall Horan is enjoying time off playing golf, and Louis Tomlinson is spending time being a new father.

Cowell spoke to reporters at this week's America's Got Talent finale and admitted that he's a bit annoyed to think that he played such a big hand in helping them to achieve international success only for them to branch out on their own without so much as consulting with him:

"I hear so many things now, which they're doing, which I'm not involved with. It's a bit like I'm getting the hint you don't want me to come to the party. Sorry for making you famous... Look, I'm not going to lie when I hear they're doing something, and they haven't approached me. You think, 'Well I would have liked you to,' but it's their choice. I'm not bitter - much."
