Simon Cowell signs '£150m' three-year X Factor and Britain's Got Talent deal

Simon Cowell's influence on Saturday night TV in the UK is set to run for at least another three years.

The media mogul has signed a deal with ITV to keep the X Factor and Britain's Got Talent on the nation's screens until the end of 2016.

The Guardian reports that the contract is worth between £140m and £150m.

Cowell commented: "I am thrilled that we have extended our deal with ITV for Britain's Got Talent and The X Factor. They have been fantastic partners and we have some exciting new plans to take the shows to the next level."

ITV's director of television Peter Fincham meanwhile said: "Britain's Got Talent and The X Factor are two of the most popular and most talked about shows on TV. They set the gold standard for entertainment production. We're pleased to announce this deal which will see them continue to be an important part of ITV's schedule."

Despite the megabucks deal, this year's UK X Factor has slipped in the ratings and regularly loses out to the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing.

It's even worse overseas, however, with Cowell's X Factor USA is seemingly slipping closer to the brink after recently having reported ratings of just 3.6m.
