STARS SET TO RETURN FOR FREE NORTH EAST GIG

Sophie Ellis-Bextor and The Feeling will both be performing in Bents Park, South Shields on Sunday (July 26) as part of the South Tyneside Festival 2015.

Sophie, whose hits include Take Me Home, Murder on the Dancefloor and Groovejet (If This Ain’t Love) with Spiller, first appeared at the Festival in 2011, with Brit award nominated rock band The Feeling performing at the same event the following year.

Both acts are returning by popular demand to perform hits from their extensive back catalogues, which for the Feeling includes top 20 singles Fill My Little World, Never Be Lonely and Love it When You Call.

They will be joined for the open air gig by South Shields singer/songwriter Cortney Dixon.  The 18 year old, who is also a talented guitarist, has already shared the stage with a host of top artists, including Paul Heaton and Terrorvision and is inspired by acts such as Fleetwood Mac and Kate Bush.

This will be the third in a series of four Sunday Concerts being held in Bents Park as part of the South Tyneside Festival 2015 with the final, featuring North East stars Joe McElderry, Collabro and Lola Saunders, taking place next week (August 2).

The Sunday Concerts are organised by South Tyneside Council with support from event sponsors Port of Tyne, Dicksons and Colmans.

Councillor Alan Kerr, Deputy Leader of South Tyneside Council, with responsibility for Culture and Leisure, said: “We are so excited that Sophie and The Feeling are returning to the South Tyneside Festival.  Both acts went down a storm at their previous appearances and I am sure the crowds will turn out in force for them again, just as they have for 5ive, Atomic Kitten, Gwen Dickey, Billy Ocean and all the other stars who have appeared over the past two weeks.”

Gates for Sunday’s concert, featuring Sophie Ellis-Bextor, The Feeling and Cortney Dixon, will open at 1pm and entry is free.   Due to the huge popularity of the previous two Sunday Concerts, people are advised to arrive early to avoid disappointment.  Full listings for this event, and all the other activities taking place as part of the South Tyneside Festival 2015 which runs until the end of August, can be found at www.visitsouthtyneside.co.uk, by searching for South Tyneside Events on Facebook, following STynesideEvents on Twitter or calling the South Tyneside Visitor Information Centre on 0191 424 7788.
