Beyoncé, Tegan & Sara and more condemn Trump’s anti-trans bathroom order

Beyoncé, Tegan and Sara, and more have all united to condemn Donald Trump’s reversal of protection for transgender students.

Last week on Wednesday (February 22), Trump rolled back an order signed by Barack Obama that gave transgender pupils the right to use whichever bathroom related to their gender indentity.

Beyoncé responded by urging fans in a Facebook post to help protect trans youth. She wrote: “LGBTQ students need to know we support them”.

Tegan and Sara posted their own message of support for trans students on their Instagram page, saying:

"This is a crucial time in our history. Transgender rights are CIVIL RIGHTS. No matter where you are on the LGBTQ spectrum this should hit you close to home. We MUST stand up for our family because we are stronger TOGETHER. Do NOT be silent. We have spent far too much time focused on the issues that impact us personally without defending and demanding the same equality and justice for the most marginalized. That must change. The LGBTQ community still needs strong allies, so for those of you who don’t know or don’t care about what is happening right now, please get informed! LGBTQ people are POC, Muslim, Refugees, Immigrants, Disabled, Democrats, Republicans, World Citizens, Kids, Senior Citizens!  When they come for some of us, they come for all of us! @womensmarch"

Grizzly Bear’s Ed Droste also showed his support, by writing: “At this point it seriously seems like republicans take joy in eliminating the rights of the disenfranchised”.

Even Caitlyn Jenner, one of Trump's highest-profile celebrity supporters tweeted:

“I have a message for President Trump, from, well, one Republican to another: This is a disaster. And you can still fix it. You made a promise to protect the LGBTQ community. Call me.”
