The Vamps' Connor Ball chats to Pressparty: 'I'd date a fan, that would be cool!'

Heartthrob Connor Ball, of The Vamps fame, sat down for a chat with Pressparty earlier this afternoon (April 9) and opened up about the band's dedicated fans, and the midweek chart position of their latest single, 'Last Night', and not being able to date because of his career.

The 18-year-old bassist told us that being part of a band might seem like the perfect opportunity to meet someone, but it's really hard because they're always in the studio or on tour so at the moment they're all single

Is it hard to maintain personal relationships while diving headfirst into your collective career in The Vamps? Would you ever consider dating a fan or would you rule that out?

"None of us are in relationships; we’ve had to stop trying. We’re never home, we’re never able to do that we just kind of left it. In the future maybe we can try again with stuff… I guess I’d date a fan! Dating someone that likes your music is cool. Brad (gets the most attention) because he’s just so cute, you know!"

You've just been on tour as main support to boyband The Wanted! How were the dates and did the lads give you any advice about being a successful group?

"That was amazing, it was really cool to be on their farewell tour and play to big venues every night. It was really nice. It was quite scary, but cool. We didn’t go out that much with them  - we met up with them a few times when Nathan and Max were there and we had a good time, it was just nice! We spoke a few times and they said to just keep grounded and stay normal and don’t think you’re getting too big…"

Earlier this week you told fans your new single, 'Last Night', was just 12,000 copies away from reaching No.1 and today, during the midweek update, it was confirmed as No.2. How would you celebrate a No.1 single or album?

"We’re really happy with how it has done – the fans have been amazing. We’re really lucky. We haven’t really planned it yet, but they said they would want to get a tattoo but I don’t know if that’s going to happen! We’d probably have a party, get all the families down. We’re just trying to push it ('Last Night') even further to see how high it can get. We’re really happy with it at the moment, yeah."

You have an extremely devoted and supported fanbase, have you had any exciting encounters with them recently?

"We just did our own show at Shepherd’s Bush and people were there since 6am, it was crazy… just camping out. It was so nice. We get a few cakes and sweets, and a few T-shirts, which have been really cool! We’ve had the van mobbed a few times and we’ve had to call the police and they’ve had to come get us!"

Later this summer, you're heading out the USA for a run of dates in support of singer Austin Mahone. Are you excited for the jaunt?

Yeah, July into August. It’s our first American tour. It’ll be so cool, the venues look wicked so we can’t wait. We get recognised a little bit abroad, yeah. America has been really nice and France, actually. That has been really cool! I can’t wait (for Austin Mahone’s tour), we’re all really excited.
