The Vamps on fame: 'Seeing fans wearing masks with our faces on is the funniest thing ever'

Earlier this morning, UK based pop-rock group The Vamps sat down for a chat with the presenters on BBC Breakfast and opened up about their band name and what it's like to be on the rise to global stardom.

When asked why they decided on the band name The Vamps, member James McVey admitted that it's just a word they all agreed on: "I think that the name is just something that's got a lot of different meanings. We know in France it's quite a derogatory term, but with regards to us we just like the word."

McVey then joked about the price of fame and explained that they recently unleashed masks onto the market so now and again they see photos of fans wearing their faces, which is very surreal:

"One thing that's really weird, we just released these face masks of ourselves, which sounds kind of lame, but when you see them it's the funniest thing ever. People are going around with, like, Brad masks on."

The lads spent part of today signing autographs for fans in Claire's Accessories on Oxford Street in London, but had to ask their fans to calm down after they were mobbed. They tweeted a message from their collective Twitter account, which read:

"PLEASE can you calm down as it's getting dangerous. Police threatening to shut down. We can't even try to start until the doorway is clear."
