The Vamps' Brad Simpson recalls first gig: 'It was probably absolutely terrible'

The Vamps' Brad Simpson has opened up on the first time he played live.

The singer and guitarist is currently in the midst of a massive UK tour, but it seems the Brit had modest beginnings.

Speaking in a blog written for Sugarscape, Simpson said that the first time he performed was probably at a "terrible" school event.

He said: "I’m not sure when the first time I played on a stage was, but I think it was in my band that I had when I was about 12. I was a guitarist and we played in our school assembly. In my head I was like, 'this is incredible, we’re living the dream', but looking back it was probably absolutely terrible.

"It wasn’t until I was like 14 or 15 that I really started getting into it and going out gigging myself. I did some solo acoustic-y gigs and started performing around Birmingham in little pubs and clubs and it was really fun.

"That was when I realised I just really, really wanted to gig all the time and now I do! Gigging in the band is just a different class though, just because me and the lads get on so well and we have such a good time on stage together."
