The Vamps on One Direction comparisons

British pop-rock band The Vamps recently sat down for a chat with the Nottingham Post and opened up about being compared to other all-male groups that are popular at the moment.

When asked about being likened to One Direction, guitarist James McVey explained that the only similarity between them is their gender:

"We've never actually been told we sound like One Direction. I think One Direction sound awesome, but it’s not really what we sound like. They are the biggest band in the world, so it’s kind of cool that people would compare us, but I guess it’s people that don’t understand music to a certain degree. They see teenage guys who look similar, that’s where the comparisons end really. Our music is very different."

Earlier this month, Brad Simpson told the IB Times that they aren't a boyband because they don't have choreographed dance moves and they all play instruments:

"(We're) a girl band. We're a band of boys, obviously, but I think a boyband is associated with straight up five singers... a vocal group. We're a band. We have a drummer, a lead guitarist, bassist, lead singer and rhythm guitarist."
