The Vamps on Zayn Malik: 'He could join us as a backing singer'

'Last Night' hitmakers The Vamps have revealed that former 1D heartthrob Zayn Malik is always welcome to join their band.

Frontman Brad Simpson told The Mirror that Malik could always join The Vamps if he needs something to do although his vocals would have to be in the background because they already have a lead singer:

"He can join us if he wants. He'd have to do backing vocals or something like that because we already have a lead singer... I mean, does he play an instrument? If so then maybe we have a vacancy for him but if not then there's not really any room."

Bassist Connor Ball added that perhaps the former 1D superstar could rap on their songs: "But he does look like he can spit bars. I bet he can spit some mean rhymes. He can be our rapper."

Tristan Evans, who drums in the band, confessed that he would feel guilty if Malik joined The Vamps given that he only quit 1D a few months ago: "I'd feel a little bad on One Direction if he joined us. Imagine if he just came out on stage with us singing! When you think of a boyband, you think of vocalists. We aren't just vocalists - we play instruments. We prefer to be compared to groups like Nirvana rather than One Direction."
