The Vamps' James McVey opens up about writing a book

Musician James McVey, of The Vamps fame, has been putting his passion for all things creative to good use and is currently writing a book.

"The thing that I'm really excited about is something that started in October last year. I remember going to sleep one evening - I think I was on tour - and thinking to myself, 'If I was to write a book, I wonder what the first line would be.'"

"I thought 'actually, I quite like that line' and from there I started developing a story in my head. That kind of evolved to a complete story and then I thought to myself, 'I enjoy writing poetry and songs, so I might just give writing a story a go.' It has been six months now and I'm just about to finish the tenth chapter of this book."

"It's something I took on not knowing what the commitment was. I don't know when it'll be finished or when it's coming out, but I'm grateful for the positivity you've sent my way. From what you've been telling me, it seems to be something you'd want to read at some point."

He went onto add that the book explores a dystopian universe where the Second World War and the Cold War had different outcomes:

"It's like a science... I don't mean like spaceships and aliens... it's a futuristic fiction adventure story. I've taken a lot of inspiration from '1984' by George Orwell [...] also a film called 'The Island', which really inspired me. I took a lot of inspiration from a combination of fact and fiction."
