Luke Friend leaves X Factor

Luke Friend has become the first contestant to leave The X Factor on final weekend.

Friend was the first auditionee through the doors left the show at the end of the semi-final after receiving fewer votes than Sam Bailey and Nicholas McDonald.

Devonian Friend had performed fun.'s 'We Are Young' on the night, as well as taking to the stage to duet with Ellie Goulding on 'Anything Could Happen'.

But he faced tough competition from show favourite Sam Bailey, who smashed Lady Gaga's 'Edge Of Glory' before duetting with Nicole Scherzinger on Dreamgirls hit 'And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going'.

Nicholas McDonald also impressed during a performance of Westlife's 'Flying Without Wings' with Shane Filan, and Robbie Williams' 'Candy'.

Friend described his experience on the show as "absolutely mental", and said it had been "amazing" to get to the final weekend.

Mentor Louis Walsh added that Luke was "unique" and told fans to "watch this space", while Luke himself stated he was "looking forward to getting out there and gigging".

The Killers performed on the show, and so did some of the most memorable X Factor contestants from the last ten years, including Wagner, Jedward and Ryland.

Earlier today (December 14) it was revealed that the winner of this year's show will join Beyoncé on her UK tour.
