Tinie Tempah names Dizzee Rascal as huge influence: 'I wanted to be like him'

'Written In The Stars' hitmaker Tinie Tempah has explained that before he broke into the big time with his 2010 debut album, 'Disc-Overy', he always looked up to Dizzee Rascal as a source of great inspiration.

Talking to Rollacoaster magazine, the London based rapper confessed that Dizzee was someone he admired and respected musically and personally:

"The person I wanted to be like was Dizzee Rascal. He made that transition from underground MCing to not only chart success in the UK but in the rest of the world, and almost consolidating his position as a British artist regardless of the genre he belongs to."

Tinie is currently putting the finishing touches on his sophomore offering, which is set to be named 'Demonstration', and explained that he's still getting his head around the success he has enjoyed and navigating the industry while learning about it:

"I feel that I'm very much still studying this whole craft; the music industry. I have no ego when it comes to this. I'm always watching people – and if they're doing something right, I want to know how it's done."

Meanwhile, he has recently been confirmed to perform at the upcoming tribute concert for the late Stephen Lawrence, which will take place at London's O2 Arena on September 29.

A video has emerged of Tinie Tempah attempting 70 press-ups over a number of eggs for a Red Nose Day challenge.

The rapper was asked by Jessie J to try the tough task for Comic Relief, but he couldn't manage the full amount.

Tempah got to about 66 press-ups before his arms buckled and his body gave up - but thankfully for the music man, not all of the eggs cracked under him.

The challenge is just one of many dares dished out by Jessie J ahead of Red Nose Day, which is taking place on Friday (March 15).

The 'Domino' singer herself is due to shave off her hair live on the night in an attempt to raise money for the good cause.

'Pass Out' superstar Tinie Tempah is "chilling out" now his second studio album has been wrapped up.

The British star has finished work on his latest musical offering and is looking forward to relaxing over Christmas before its release next year.

Speaking to Capital FM, Tempah explained: "It feels good to be back. We're chilling out now. The album's done and we're gonna chill out and just enjoy Christmas. At the start of the year we're going to start dropping stuff and then hopefully we'll have it out in time for the summer."

Tempah features on DJ Calvin Harris's latest single 'Drinking from the Bottle', and when it was suggested that the message behind the single was "uncouth", the star laughed off the light-hearted comment.

He joked: "Exactly, but it's perfect timing - Christmas is on!"

Tempah's newest album follows on from the huge success of his debut offering 'Disc-Overy'.

Tinie Tempah has blasted musicians who turn to designing clothes just for the money.

The ‘Pass Out’ star, who launched his own Disturbing London range earlier this year, told The Sun that he has little respect for pop stars who get into fashion for the wrong reasons:

“If it’s something that’s natural to you and you genuinely have a passion for, that’s one thing. But if it’s just for business that’s another.”

The 23-year-old, who appeared alongside Tulisa at the X-Factor Judges’ House stage last night, went on to suggest that the downturn in album sales may be responsible for such ventures:

“I can’t speak for those guys individually but in this day and age – music has changed.

“I feel like lots of artists aren’t selling lots of records any more. They’re not touring as much and are always looking for avenues to branch off into.”

Tinie Tempah: 'I want to represent well-brought-up hip-hop artists'

'Pass Out' superstar Tinie Tempah has opened up about the stereotype surrounding the modern grime and hip-hop music scenes.

In a new interview, Tinie explained that people expect the stars to represent a generation of crime or broken homes when in reality a lot of the artists are well-brought up and educated individuals, much like himself:

"I'm incredibly close to my mum and dad. Even to this day I call them mummy and daddy. I was well-brought-up, my parents are still together. When people listen to hip-hop, they think everybody's from a broken home; that it only appeals to people from broken homes and those on drugs."

"But the majority probably do live with their mum and dad. They probably do go to good schools, and I just want to represent that."

Earlier this year, he confirmed that his new studio album 'Demonstration' is due to be released in October.

UK sensation Tinie Tempah has unveiled unexpected sources of inspiration for his forthcoming studio album and explained that two musicians in particular influenced his new direction.

Speaking to the NME, the 'Frisky' star admitted that Coldplay's Chris Martin and songstress Lana Del Rey have been fantastic points of reference while trying to redefine his sound for his new album, 'Demonstration':

"Chris Martin has been quite an influence on this album. It's definitely a lot more progressive in the quality of the sound. I've been listening to Lykke Li and Lana Del Rey, songs like, 'Love Out Of Lust' and 'Dark Paradise', the dynamics of the sound, how big and anthemic it gets."

He also teased details of a new track called 'DO To The OD', which he has vowed to perform live during his summer festival sets:

"There's one called 'DO To The OD' that kind of has the same qualities as 'Pass Out' and 'Frisky'. It's a real gritty vocal and quite explicit as well."

Tinie Tempah reveals strip club disappointment

Tinie Tempah has revealed that strip clubs in America aren't quite what they are made out to be.

Speaking to The Sun, Tinie said that he used to listen to a lot of "southern US rap", which often focused its lyrics on strippers.

However, when Tinie actually went to a strip club in the US, he was left feeling somewhat deflated, with the dancers often there to "strip for their college tuition fees". He said:

"Strip clubs in America are so big. When I was listening to southern US rap, all I was listening to was strippers and strippers' booties. Then I went to a strip club in America. When you see a naked stripper for the first time she gives you a lap dance and tells you she is in college and she is stripping for her tuition fees."

Tinie revealed that he also got a bit jealous when he saw his performer move on to the next man. He continued:

"The minute she goes to somebody else and you see her laughing, it feels like she is cheating on you. I'm like, 'What are you doing? Come back here, I thought we had something! ’'So that's going to take a little while to get used to."

Tinie Tempah's new album will shock fans

Tinie Tempah has opened up about his forthcoming new album and revealed that he's taking his sound "back to basics".

The 'Pass Out' hitmaker is hard at work on the follow up record to 'Disc-Overy' and explained to Capital FM that it will have a more "indie and underground and raw" appeal, and he's particularly excited about the collaboration with Dizzee Rascal:

"I've got something on there with Dizzee Rascal, which is amazing. I've been listening to Dizzee since I was 12-years-old so that means a lot to me. I'm really, really excited about that."

"It's very hard, it's very grimy. It's the complete opposite of what people would think we were gunning for. When I played the instrumental to Dizzee he was like, 'Thank god you didn't try and get me on something that you want to make a big hit'."

Although the offering hasn't yet been given an official release date, Tinie recently confirmed its title as 'Demonstration'.

Tinie Tempah wants new fashion label to speak for itself

Tinie Tempah says he hopes his new clothing label is successful on its own merits and not just because of his celebrity name.

The 23-year-old rapper, who launched his Disturbing London menswear range at Selfridges earlier this month, told The Telegraph that he is taking his new role as a fashion entrepreneur very seriously:

He said: "At the end of the day, I'm a 23-year-old male from inner city London. Of course I'm into tailoring - but in the right circumstances: swanky events, awards or fashion shows. I want [the collection] to show the different layers of what makes me who I am. I thought it would be good to do something that was high-end streetwear, based around the whole Americana storm that is happening now. D'ya get what I mean?

"I don't want people to just go out and buy this stuff because Tinie Tempah is associated with it. I want people to fall in love with it and go and seek it off their own accord."

The ‘Pass Out’ star, who won Best Dressed Man of 2012 at the recent GQ Awards, went onto reveal how he plans to expand the range in the future:

"I'm going to carry on collaborating until I get to the point where I feel it's safe and cool and credible enough to go for the full heritage: a high-end collection, tailoring - everything. You have to think big and start off small, get people to fall in love with the brand."
