2001 is the new band from Joan Wasser (Joan As Police Woman) and Benjamin Lazar Davis.

Their first release is, 'BROKE ME IN TWO', available now on Spotify and ultimately as part of a Double A-Sided 7" Vinyl Single + download.

2001 formed when Wasser and Lazar met each other after separate trips to Africa; Ethiopia for Wasser as part of DAMON ALBARN'S AFRICAN EXPRESS, and West Africa for Lazar to study traditional music.

Joan Wasser: 2001 is my new collaborative project with fellow Brooklynaire Benjamin Lazar Davis. Initially, we bonded over Central African Republic Pygmy musical patterns and ended up writing a whole record loosely inspired by this music. In “Broke Me In Two”, you can hear this influence in the staccato bit-crushed guitar line that plays throughout. Of course you could always ignore all this and listen as if you’re hearing a pop song….
