Bono: "U2 are on the verge of irrelevance"

Bono has admitted that he thinks U2 are on the cusp of being irrelevant.

The Irish group recently released the tune 'Invisible' after debuting it in a Super Bowl advert and it seems their next album assault will follow later this year.

However, the singer told BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe that he thinks the group's lyrics may be out of touch with mainstream audiences.

He said: "We're on the verge of irrelevance. You have to make stuff relevant to you and where you're at, make an honest account of what you're going through. If that's relevant to other people, great. But we don't know."

Speaking meanwhile about in the inspiration behind U2's new album, Bono added:

"We went back to why we wanted to be in a band in the first place. We were listening to the Ramones and Kraftwerk - you can hear both on 'Invisible'. It opened up a whole valve for me writing, it was like a damburst of sorts."

U2's last studio album came in the shape of 2009's 'No Line on the Horizon'.
