U2 "gutted" to postpone their new album until 2012

Iconic rock band U2 are "gutted" that they've had to postpone their new album until 2012.

Speaking to the Rolling Stone, Bono admitted that they simply need more time to come up with "what we do best":

"We had to have a meeting and look at the schedule to see if we could pick up any extra time to work on it. We just realised that we couldn't. To be honest, everyone was a bit gutted. But it was the only sensible decision."

Bono and his bandmate Edge are also hard at work on getting their musical, 'Spiderman - Turn Off The Dark', ready for its official release, but have been in the studio with super-producer RedOne although they admit his sound wasn't right for the band:

"We have to focus on what we do best, and the work we did with Danger Mouse came closest to that. We want to be in the clubs and make pop music as well as the thing U2 does, but in the end, the thing we did with RedOne doesn't feel like the right fit."

U2 are set to headline Glastonbury Festival and you can watch Bono and Edge perform 'Turn Off The Dark' from the stage show here:
