U2 donate $7.2 million to Irish schools

U2 will be donating €5 million ($7.2 million) through 2015 to Irish schools to fund music education.

The donation will mainly be put toward musical equipment and salaries for music teachers.

An additional €2 million euros ($2.9 million) will be given to Ireland Funds.

U2's donation comes after recent economic cuts to Irish education spending in the government's attempt at a bailout. The donation is designed so that by the end of the five-year term, the government can take over funding for the programs.
