ADAM FRENCH -- WEIGHTLESS EP -- OUT NOW
WEIGHTLESS EP – OUT NOW
“Weightless is a devastating return, an enthralling piece of songwriting that exemplifies his use of space" – CLASH
“This new EP is a step up from everything he has been making – it’s amazing” – ROB ADCOCK, BBC INTRODUCING
“He is a very talented guy” – HUW STEPHENS
Self-taught multi-instrumentalist Adam French is a creator of rich songs, full of depth, honesty and a cinematic quality. New EP Weightless produced by Rich Cooper (Mystery Jets, Lucy Rose, Billie Marten, Tom Odell) is a beautiful, intimate collection of exemplary songs…
Be it the raw stripped-back fervour of Weightless, the wisps of gospel-tinged voices that blow through Skin Deep, or the snatches of electronic loops that mingle with the piano chords on My Addiction, Adam is undeniably captivating. You might not think on paper that the anguished thrash of New Yorkers The Walkmen’s 2004 single The Rat would lend itself to an eerie acoustic guitar and quivering strings, but to listen to it unfurl on record is breath-taking. The poignant cover strikes a chord with all listeners.
Adam shares: “The Rat soundtracked a lot of my youth, and it's at least half responsible for me wanting to start writing music and become a recording artist. The Walkmen are immortal and that track holds so many memories for the people that fell in love with it as I did.”
Shot in a single take and in ultra-slow motion, the video for Weightless is a surreal experience, like being stuck in a metaphorical floating bubble. Drifting from room to room, in a haze of nostalgia, we see Adam and adolescents reverting to different childlike states in their attempt to block out the harsh reality of adulthood. Watch HERE.
Have a glance Adam’s new EP artwork… taken on film by the man himself and set against a white tiled wall, the well-kept orange tree you’re looking at is currently stood in his flat-cum-cluttered 24/7 demo recording studio and rehearsal space, taking pride of place next to the stacks of keyboards, guitars and various bits of recording equipment as it was when Adam first started working on these songs. Songs and song-writing have always been a constant companion in Adam’s life. Growing up in Congleton in the North West (between Manchester & Stoke) Adam cut his teeth on the local gig circuit, before the opportunities of the capital lured him to London where he now lives.
Adam is one of the most interesting singer-songwriters currently operating, a fact borne out by the rapturously received festival appearances and shows he’s played over the last 18 months (Reading & Leeds, The Great Escape, Boardmasters, Festival #6, Latitude, to name a few). As well as supporting and sharing the bill with the likes of Jack Garratt, Rat Boy, Pete Doherty, Miles Kane, and The Sunshine Underground. Recently confirmed as support for Jake Bugg’s solo acoustic tour, Adam will be taking the stage on 19th November at Stoke’s Victoria Hall and 22nd November in Bexhill-on-Sea. Plus, supporting Now Now on 10th Nov at London’s Omeara, and Rostam on the 14th November at Courtyard Theatre.
Adam will be performing two intimate headline shows in London and Manchester, Thursday 1st February 2018 @ Bermondsey Social Club London, get tickets HERE.
Friday 9th February 2018 @ Deaf Institute Manchester, tickets available HERE.
