UK afrobeats is the movement taking the streets by storm, the sound of multi-cultural inner city life. Now, UK afrobeats kingpin, Afro B curates ‘MOVES’, released in full on May 19th. The first official UK afrobeats compilation, a series of exclusive anthems, never officially released before, from the leaders of the scene. In the lead up to the album’s release, a selection of tracks will be dropped on Apple Music and Spotify playlists here.

The ‘MOVES Drop 1’ playlist is out today, and features TG Millian, Blanco (both from Harlem Spartans) & Naira Marley’s ‘Money on the Road’, the video premiered exclusively on Noisey, watch here. The drop also includes NSG’s Kilo Keemzo featuring ‘We Dey’ & 'Tell A Paigon Try' from Brockley MC IQ (of Finesse Foreva).

Afrobeats, afro rap, afro bashment, are the many forms of this head-spinning fusion sound, a diasporic blend of African influences old and new, charged with Caribbean dancehall/bashment and run through a prism of Anglo-American rap, trap, grime and R&B. It’s a result of a DIY conversation between the UK and Africa, via the Caribbean, the US and Europe, where afro-trap is currently taking France by storm.

In the past year we’ve seen J Hus stepping up to the chart mantle, and the likes of Maleek Berry, MoStack, Kojo Funds and more making afrobeats anthems. On a global scale, 2016 saw Lagos native Wizkid collaborate with Drake to make ‘One Dance’, one of the biggest hits of the year.

Through 22 tracks Belly Squad, Harlem Spartans, NSG, IRAY MVMT, Vianni, Naira Marley and many more take their brand of pulsating rhythms, melodic ear-worm hooks and eccentric lyricism to the next level.
