Miranda Cooper renews deal with Warner/Chappell Music

Songwriting legend Miranda Cooper has renewed her worldwide deal with Warner/Chappell Music (WCM), the music publishing arm of Warner Music Group.

Cooper is one of the most prolific and successful songwriters in pop history. Over the past two decades, she has penned an impressive string of chart-topping hits, most notably as part of the songwriting and production team Xenomania, which has written and produced songs for the likes of Girls Aloud, Kylie Minogue, Pet Shop Boys, Sugababes and The Saturdays.

Mike Smith, Managing Director, WCM UK, said: “It’s an honour and a privilege to have Miranda re-sign with us here at Warner/Chappell. She is a legend who has worked with some of the greatest talents in the pop world, writing songs that have stood the test of time to become true classics. Everyone here is looking forward to continuing to support Miranda as she enters the next stage of her incredible career.”

Miranda Cooper noted: “I’m so pleased to be able to continue working with Mike and the team at Warner/Chappell. They have some of the most talented emerging songwriters in the UK on their books, and the scope for collaborations is extremely exciting.”

In 1997, Cooper and producer Brian Higgins first collaborated on Cooper’s artist project Moonbaby. The duo subsequently began working together as Xenomania, who are credited with reshaping the sound of British pop music in the 2000s, with their songs winning multiple awards in the UK and around the world.

In 2002, Cooper penned the track “Round Round,” which became a Number One hit for Sugababes. The following year, she wrote “Hole in the Head,” which was a second Number One for the group, and she also wrote their hit singles “In the Middle” and “Red Dress.” Among her other chart-toppers are “Sound of the Underground” for Girls Aloud, the winners of the TV show Popstars: The Rivals, which spent four weeks at Number One in the UK in 2002. Cooper went on to write all of Girls Aloud’s original singles, including the Number One hit, “The Promise.”

Always keen to explore new directions, Miranda is currently working with the Old Vic theatre on an exciting new musical, while she continues to work on various pop projects.
