Simian Mobile Disco Strike Publishing Deal With Warner/Chappell Music

James Ford and Jas Shaw, better known as electronic duo Simian Mobile Disco, have struck a global publishing deal with Warner/Chappell Music, the music publishing arm of Warner Music Group.

James Ford and Jas Shaw say: “We’re delighted to be working with Mike and the team at Warner/Chappell.  We’ve got a lot of exciting projects in the pipeline and it’s good to know they’ll be supporting us as we take them forward.”

Mike Smith, Managing Director of Warner/Chappell Music UK, adds: “James and Jas are endlessly inventive, pushing at the boundaries of electronic music and techno.  Their experimental approach means that the music they write is always fresh and I can’t wait to see what they come up with next.  It’s a real pleasure to welcome them to the Warner/Chappell roster and I look forward to working with them.”

The pair first came to fame as members of the Mancunian rock band Simian, which they formed with fellow students Simon Lord and Alex MacNaghten in 2000.  They went on to start Simian Mobile Disco as a side project in 2003 and it continued after the band split up in 2005.

They released a handful of tracks through various independent labels, including the critically acclaimed and fan favourite “Hustler” on Kitsuné. They were also known for their remixes of music from artists including Air, Klaxons and Muse.

Subsequently they signed to Wichita Recordings for their debut album Attack Decay Sustain Release (2007) which confirmed their status as rising stars of the newly burgeoning electronic music scene.  Five other studio albums have followed to date: Temporary Pleasure (2009), Delicacies (2010), Unpatterns (2012), Whorl (2014) and Welcome to Sideways (2016).

They launched their own record label, Delicacies, in 2010 to better enable them to focus on their distinct sound, which has released a series of club singles and their 2013 Live album, a document of their highly acclaimed live show.  They have also released with independent record label Anti-.

In addition to his work with Simian Mobile Disco, Ford has worked as a record producer & mixer with artists including Arctic Monkeys, Depeche Mode, Florence and the Machine, Everything Everything, Little Dragon, Klaxons and Mumford & Sons.  He is also a member of the supergroup The Last Shadow Puppets, alongside Alex Turner, Miles Kane and Zach Dawes.  Shaw has built and runs his own recording studio, while also spending a lot of time on the road DJing.
