Grammy-nominated Fred Ball joins Warner/Chappell Music roster

Songwriter for Rihanna, Little Mix, Jessie Ware and Zara Larsson signs with legendary music publisher

Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum selling songwriter and producer Fred Ball has joined the roster at Warner/Chappell Music, the music publishing arm of Warner Music Group (WMG). Ball is known for writing for artists including Madonna, Rihanna, Zara Larsson and Little Mix, as well as for his own artist projects.

Fred Ball says: “I’m so excited to be working with Mike Smith again and to be joining Warner/Chappell’s amazing roster of songwriters.  I look forward to continuing to develop my career in partnership with them.”

Mike Smith, Managing Director of Warner/Chappell Music UK, adds: “I’m thrilled to be reunited with Fred.  I was lucky enough to work with him at EMI Publishing where I signed him in 2002.  His electronic album Pleasure was ahead of its time, featuring the likes of MIA, and it has been amazing watching his talent blossom in the intervening years.  It’s a real privilege to be back working with Fred again.”

Fred Ball is originally from the Norwegian city of Fredrikstad, but moved to London in 2003 when he formed his solo music project Pleasure. He pulled together a self-titled album that saw him collaborate with artists including Brett Anderson, Justine Frischmann, Ed Harcourt and Cerys Matthews. The album’s success launched Ball’s international career in production and songwriting.

His production and writing credits include working with Arrow Benjamin, Bernhoft, Brett Anderson, Jessie Ware, JP Cooper, KT Tunstall, Little Mix, Alma, Petite Meller, Kiiara, Madonna, Rihanna, and Zara Larsson.

In 2015, Ball was nominated for Best R&B Album at the Grammys for his work on Bernhoft’s album Islander.

In 2016, he wrote the doo-wop, R&B and soul inspired ballad ‘Love on the Brain’ for Rihanna’s album Anti.  The song was released as a single and reached Number 5 in the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the US, as well as being a major hit in countries including Canada, France, New Zealand and Poland, and became one of Rihanna’s biggest US radiohits to date.

Recent writing credits have included the track ‘One Mississippi’ for Zara Larsson’s global smash album So Good‘Does She Know’ for Astrid S, ‘Slow Me Down’ for Jessie Ware, ‘Say It To My Face’ for Madison Beer and the single ‘Deadwood’ for Toni Braxton.
