THE FUTUREHEADS to release new single on Oct 15th & Shepherd's Bush Empire support announced.

“A livewire performance full of nervy banter” - 4/5 The Times

“Right now The Futureheads look like a band who have finally found themselves”– 4/5 Evening Standard

“It's an ingenious feat to turn their own riffy, jerky songs into frantic, Mackem-accented four-part vocals... The skill is remarkable, and ‘Rant’ is never less than impressive.” - Mail on Sunday

“Glorious indeed” - 8/10 NME

Following the release of their critically acclaimed a cappella album 'Rant' and a wealth of UK shows and festival dates, The Futureheads have announced that they’ll be releasing an acoustic version of ‘The Beginning of the Twist’ on15th October through Nul Records. Originally featured on ‘This is Not the World’ in 2008,‘The Beginning of the Twist’ is a firm favourite amongst fans and this Eastern European-tinged rendition has gone on to become one of highlights of their stunningly versatile and witty a cappella and acoustic show.

Listen to the acoustic version of 'The Beginning of the Twist' here: http://soundcloud.com/thefutureheads/the-futureheads-beginning-of

The first track from the set to be released that doesn’t feature on ‘Rant’, it most recently raised the canvas roof of the Festival Republic stage at this year’s Reading & Leeds Festival inspiring pogoing gypsy-punk moves from the crowd and is set to do the same at the band’s upcoming shows this month.

The Futureheads are set to play an a cappella & acoustic headline show at London’s Shepherd’s Bush Empire on September 19th, where they will be supported by Mercury Prize nominees Sweet Billy Pilgrim. They also have a cappella dates in Belfast and Dublin and close their very own Split Festivalalongside the likes of Pulled Apart By Horses, Saint Etienne and PiL, fronted by British punk icon John Lydon.

Following this legendary addition to Split Festival’s line-up, Barry Hyde had this to say:

“Finalising the line up for Split this year has been a challenge to say the least, we’ve had some dead ends and red herrings, long shots and near misses, but finally we’ve managed to get a band we would never have even dreamed of. Split is bringing a Sex Pistol to Sunderland, THE Sex Pistol! It’s a punk rock miracle and we are very excited.”

Split Festival takes place from September 21st-23rd at Ashbrooke Sports Club, Sunderland. For more information and Split Festival tickets, please visit www.splitfestival.com

The Futureheads will be playing the following shows:

SEPTEMBER
6th: BELFAST, Downstairs at The Mac
7th: DUBLIN, Whelans
19th: LONDON, Shepherd’s Bush Empire
23rd: SUNDERLAND, Split Festival

“There are moments of brilliance and genuine beauty to be found in the eye of North Atlantic Oscillation’s storm.” -The Skinny

North Atlantic Oscillation have teamed up with fellow soundscape creatorsNedry for a remix swap, with the Edinburgh duo putting their own hypnotic spin on Nedry’s ‘Float’. Nedry, in turn, have broken through North Atlantic Oscillation’s all-consuming wall of sound to add a sense of space and calm to ‘Fog Electric’s brilliant first single, ‘Soft Coda’ and you can stream both below.

The Nedry remix of ‘Soft Coda’ is available now as the B-side to North Atlantic Oscillation’s current single ‘Savage with Barometer’.
Stream the remix here:http://soundcloud.com/kscopemusic/soft-coda-nedry-remix-24bit

Having recently released a remixed version of their album ‘In a Dim Light’, London-based trio Nedry have now had North Atlantic Oscillation put their own twist on ‘Float’. They’ve stripped away Nedry’s trademark fidgeting rhythms, built in a warming, tumbling flow of drum beats to create something typical of North Atlantic Oscillation: atmospheric and suitably beautiful.

THE WOLFNOTES are back with 'Static Bleed' EP and their debut album via Pledge Music!

Back with renewed vigour, Kurran & The Wolfnotes are now known simply as The Wolfnotes and have announced that their long-awaited debut album will be released in November!

Together with Pledge Music, The Wolfnotes are taking music back to basics and – more importantly – back to the people that matter. All those that pledge will not only be able to get their hands on exclusive content and updates, but will also get an immediate download of ‘Static Bleed’, an 8-track EP that features new recordings and old favourites. The new album will be available to Pledgers only on November 18th, and wider release details will follow shortly.

Releasing the album via Pledge has put The Wolfnotes back in control of their music and their relationship with their fans. Keen to interact with them as much as possible, the band will be sending out footage of them rehearsing and recording the album to their fans and Pledgers each Friday to show not only where their money is going, but also to give them that extra something special.

The first update from frontman Kurran Karbal thanked the fans, and he expressed his genuine excitement to be approaching the album’s release in this way:

“I feel renewed by the process already. And when I saw the rest of the band for rehearsal on Sunday I could see it had hit them too. It’s reminded us of the real rewards you get from this bizarre job. Something as small as a few tweets from you guys saying you like the EP and stuff, that’s what it’s all about! And I don’t mean praise or the money, I just mean the interaction. To create and to share! And now there is no middle man in between us.”

The Wolfnotes will also be playing a Strongroom Session on September 5th in Shoreditch, London and more dates and album details are to follow.

MARIKA HACKMAN reveals her bewitching video for 'You Come Down'

With her debut double A-side single ‘You Come Down’/’Mountain Spines’ due for release on September 3rd through Transgressive's single imprint ParadYse (Theme Park, Cold Specks), Marika Hackman has unveiled the beautifully bewitching video for ‘You Come Down’.

‘You Come Down’s haunting melody and ethereal vocal together with its folk backbone feels timeless, and Seth Finegold & Poppy Rogers’ video has captured all of these elements effortlessly. Filmed in an abandoned house in Dorset, the eerie setting complements the song's mystical nature.

You can watch the video below: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0FbrKgLLD4

Marika’s music channels something very different to the happy-clappy nature of recent folk. Hers is a far more potent vision in the lineage of Syd Barrett, but presented by an enigmatic beauty with a striking vocal delivery more akin to that of Nico deftly exploring an unsmiling bereft landscape:

“I don't know why I started writing; it's something I've been playing around with since I was so young that I can't remember how it began. I think living in the countryside for most of my life has affected my writing as nature usually manages to creep its way into my songs..."

Marika Hackman will be playing a sold-out single launch show on September 4th at the London Servant Jazz Quartersbefore accompanying Benjamin Francis Leftwich on his October tour. All dates are listed below.

OCTOBER
1st: BRIGHTON, Concorde 2
2nd: BOURNEMOUTH, Old Fire Station
3rd: EXETER, The Phoenix
4th: FALMOUTH, Princess Pavillion
5th: SWANSEA, Sin City
6th: BRISTOL, O2 Academy
8th: OXFORD, Town Hall
9th: NEWCASTLE, Northumbria University
10th: EDINBURGH, Pleasance Theatre
11th: ABERDEEN, Lemon Tree
12th: INVERNESS, Ironworks
13th: GLASGOW, Oran Mor
15th: LEEDS, City Varieties
16th: SHEFFIELD, Plug
17th: BIRMINGHAM, Irish Centre
18th: CAMBRIDGE, Junction
19th: NORWICH, Waterfront
20th: NOTTINGHAM, Rescue Rooms
22nd: CARLISLE, Brickyard
23rd: LIVERPOOL, University (Stanley Theatre)
24th: LONDON, KOKO
25th: MANCHESTER, HMV Ritz
26th: STOKE, Sugarmill
27th: YORK, Duchess
29th: WREXHAM, Central Station
31st: GALWAY, Roisin Dubh (upstairs)

Following the release of ‘(I Should Be A) Communist’, fanzine single ‘Starling’ and triumphant support shows for The Cribs, This Many Boyfriends have announced that their long-awaited, self titled debut album will be released onOctober 8th through Angular Recording Co and they'll also hit the road for a headline UK tour.

Recorded and mixed by Ryan Jarman of The Cribs at Edwyn Collins’ West Heath Studios in London across three intensive weekends, this album is This Many Boyfriends' love letter to their record collections, a tribute to the catchiest and most vibrant moments they could find amongst their most treasured post-punk, C86 and Motown 45s.

Listen to the new single ‘Number One’ , which will be released on October 1st: http://soundcloud.com/angularrecords/this-many-boyfriends-number

Their pop lust is often combined with a razor sharp wit. On the song 'I Don’t Like You (‘Cos You Don’t Like The Pastels)', for instance, Richard muses: “I didn’t leave when you said you didn’t like Springsteen. I didn’t even flinch when you said you hated the Go-Betweens. But what you said about Baby Honey was truly unforgivable…”

Hearing these songs and reference points feels like being granted instant access to the best fanclub on earth. A club filled with people you can have a laugh with rather than lofty popstars who want to keep you at arms length. The band talk about being handed fanzines after gigs or getting into long conversations about indie records with people who’ve obviously heard the lyrics and felt a kinship with the band performing them.

This Many Boyfriends, you see, are a rare kind of band. Like the Smiths or Belle and Sebastian, they’re a band that actually mean something. A band that feel like your band. Most importantly, they’re a band you should hold close to your heart … then form your own group and write a song about them, obviously.

This Many Boyfriends will be playing the following shows: OCTOBER
11th: LEEDS, Brudenell Social Club
12th: NEWCASTLE, Dog & Parrot
13th: MANCHESTER, The Roadhouse
14th: SHEFFIELD, The Harley
16th: LEICESTER, The Firebug
17th: LONDON, The Lexington
20th: CARDIFF, SWN Festival
21st: YORK, Stereo

North Atlantic Oscillation to release 'Savage with Barometer' on Aug 20th. Watch the video now!

“Inventive and ambitious” - Morning Star
“Put this in your ears” - Drowned in Sound
“There are moments of brilliance and genuine beauty to be found in the eye of North Atlantic Oscillation’s storm.” -The Skinny

Following the release of album ‘Fog Electric’ in April, Edinburgh-based duo North Atlantic Oscillation are preparing for their next single and a hometown show on August 23rd. Taken from 'Fog Electric', ‘Savage with Barometer' will be out on August 20thaccompanied by a video by Brendan McCarthy.

Shot in Edinburgh, the video explores one of the most simple of acts: crossing the road. Although visually it's a step away from 'Fog Electric's theme of the sea's devastating power, the constant stop-start motion of the main character’s journey and his frustration that builds alongside it is mirrored by the hypnotic wall of sound that dominates ‘Savage with Barometer’.

As a track, it grows and pulls back before ultimately rolling into a shimmering wave-like crescendo. Here, North Atlantic Oscillation have captured the beautiful and often cruel nature of the sea, encapsulating the album's theme.

North Atlantic Oscillation are Sam Healy (vocals, guitar, bass, keyboards, programming) and Ben Martin (drums, synths, programming). They are joined live by Bill Walsh (synths, guitar, vocals) and Chris Howard (bass & synths).

North Atlantic Oscillation will be playing Electric Circus in Edinburgh on August 23rd 2012.

The Corsica Studios show may well be sold out, but Cloud Nothings will be returning to London for what promises to be another incredible live show on November 6th, fresh from the Pitchfork Music Festival in Paris.
THE FRESH & ONLYS NEW SINGLE STREAM ‘PRESENCE OF MIND’ OUT AUGUST 27TH

The supremely talented San Franciscan four The Fresh & Onlys have uploaded the second preview from their forthcoming album ‘Long Slow Dance’, which is out Sept 3rd on Souterrain Transmissions.

This new beautiful woozy summer anthem ‘Presence of Mind’ is released as a single on August 27th, also through Souterrain Transmissions.

Download ‘Presence of Mind’ HERE

With previous releases for labels such as In The Red, Woodsist, Castle Face, Captured Tracks and Sacred Bones under their belt, The Fresh & Onlys have already carved a name for themselves. Now they return with their fourth LP, the big, sprawling and woozily psychedelic ‘Long Slow Dance’ (or ‘L.S.D.’).

The quartet—Tim Cohen, Shayde Sartin, Wymond Miles, and Kyle Gibson— got started in 2008 and look exactly like a biker gang composed of record store employees who could stomp your ass while shouting Kobaïan (that language ‘70s French prog band Magma made up) at you, if they felt like it. So, it’s cool if you feel a bit unnerved when first meeting these four shaggy San Franciscans, even if that meeting only occurs via their songs.

There’s something very bad-ass about their music; it’s entirely assured and brazenly unique. You are free to think of them as part of a vibrant Bay Area scene (because they are) or try to link them to the nu-garage movement of several years ago (which is a stretch).

Whichever contextual lens you use, it hardly matters. The band is so comfortable with mixing and matching seemingly disparate genre elements at this point that, as a listener, it’s easy to feel like a mouse batted about in a corner by a housecat. It is tasteful, of course, and it does this at the service of forceful songs—frequently witty and often lovely songs. That’s the real reason it’s difficult to stop playing this album once you start.

So there you have it—The Fresh and Onlys, back to mess with your head and have you say “Thank you.”

New MOON DUO track! Album ‘Circles’ confirmed for Oct 1st on Souterrain Transmissions

After their recent Rough Trade in store show, which saw the queue to get in stretch right around the block, Moon Duo have confirmed the release of their second full-length LP ‘Circles’ for Oct 1st on Souterrain Transmissions.

‘Circles’ is the product of a long winter’s isolation in the Rocky Mountains, though the road to its fruition stretched over six months and several locations. The groundwork for the album was laid at the band’s home in Blue River, Colorado in the early months of 2012, where all songs were written, and the preliminary tracks recorded. For two weeks in early April, Moon Duo moved into a small apartment above Lucky Cat Recordings in San Francisco for an additional recording session with engineer Phil Manley (Trans Am, Life Coach). Like its predecessor, the album was mixed and tweaked at Kaiku Studios in Berlin.

Inspiration for many of the songs themes, as well as the title ‘Circles’, came from Ralph Waldo Emerson's 1841 essay by the same name, on the symbol and nature of "the flying Perfect." From the opening lines: "The eye is the first circle; the horizon which it forms is the second; and throughout nature this primary figure is repeated without end." And so it goes. Rust never sleeps.

Download the opening track from ‘Circles’ here:http://soundcloud.com/souterraintransmissions/moon-duo-sleepwalker-1

Formed in San Francisco in 2009 by Wooden Shijps guitarist Ripley Johnsonand Sanae Yamada, Moon Duo’s first two critically acclaimed EPs, 'Killing Time'(2009) and 'Escape' (2010), fused the futuristic pylon hum and transistor reverb of Suicide or Silver Apples with the heat-haze fuzz of American rock ‘n’ roll to create tracks of blistering, 12-cylinder space rock.

Their debut album 'Mazes', recorded in San Francisco and mixed in Berlin during 2010 as the band prepared to move to the mountains of Colorado, explores a far broader, lighter, sound. That’s most clear on the dreamy organ and skipping riff of the title track, which recalls the Velvet Underground, or the handclaps and swinging organ bloops over the potent shredding and guttural riff delivered by Johnson in When You Cut. Throughout, 'Mazes' is the sound of Moon Duo carving out their own identity, looking to the horizon, and moving forward.

Late 2011 saw the release of the darker, mostly instrumental 'Horror Tour' EP around the band’s fall tour of Eastern Europe; Record Store Day 2012 brought a limited edition LP 'Mazes Remixed 'which featured remixes by the likes of Sonic Boom, Psychic Ills, and Purling Hiss. Now Moon Duo are set to release'Circles', their second full-length LP with Souterrain Transmissions. The band will also set off on a worldwide tour in support of the album in October and November, the UK dates are below:

NOVEMBER

12th: GLASGOW, Captains Rest
13th: LEEDS,Brudenell Social Club
14th: LONDON, Corsica Studios
16th: BRISTOL, The Croft

Calexico unveil new track ‘Splitter’.

Following the buzzing reception to ‘Para’ last month, CALEXICO have unveiled a second new track from their forthcoming sixth studio album ‘Algiers’, entitled ‘Splitter’.

Set for release on September 10th, the album ‘Algiers’ will be released on City Slang in Europe and Anti in the US and is accompanied by a one off show atLondon’s HMV Forum on September 18th.

Recorded in New Orleans, Joey Burns’ and John Convertino’s sixth album is arguably the most exciting and accessible CALEXICO record to date. It’s a fact emphasised by the band’s decision to name the album in tribute to the neighbourhood where they worked: Algiers.

The feel of Algiers is recognisably classic CALEXICO, but their style has been revitalised and reborn through the experience of recording in the magical city of New Orleans. Their work has spoken of dusty deserts and the loners that inhabit them, mixing America’s country music heritage with that of a Latin persuasion. In other words, it isn’t obviously affiliated with the sounds that have made New Orleans one of the premiere tourist destinations in the US. The choice of New Orleans was largely down to long time collaborator/producer Craig Schumacher. “We were talking about wanting to go to Europe and record,” Burns says, “but we never get our stuff together in time to make plans that far in advance. So where do you go that is nearby and has a European feel? New Orleans.”

You might think that after the 22 years since they first met, six studio albums and a suitcase of tour CDs, collaborations with the likes of Victoria Williams, Iron & Wine, Willie Nelson, Roger McGuinn and Nancy Sinatra, and soundtrack work to boot, there wasn’t much more they could achieve. But you’d be wrong. New Orleans clearly inspired them to make an album that sees them stretch out more effortlessly than ever before.

WHY? announce new album & behind the scenes video. ‘Mumps, etc’ out 8th Oct on City Slang/Anticon

‘SOD IN THE SEED EP’ OUT AUG 13TH
‘MUMPS, ETC’ ALBUM OUT OCT 8TH

Nipping at the heels of their eagerly devoured ‘Sod in the Seed EP’, set for release on August 13th through City Slang (Europe) & Anticon (US), California's alternative Hip Hop sensation WHY? have confirmed details of their fifth full length album. Entitled ‘Mumps, etc’, the record will be released on October 8thto coincide with their UK tour – details below. To accompany the announcement, WHY? have also given us a glimpse into life behind the scenes with a video documenting the creation and final output of the artwork for ‘Mumps, etc’.

Mumps, etc’ is a meticulous work of morbid fascination and offbeat romanticism. Though there is a mysterious sickness (perhaps of the mind) that lurks about these thirteen songs, one might also imagine the title as describing the musically swole state of these three Midwestern men as they bring their sound into glisteningly buff focus.
Yoni Wolf, brother Josiah and Doug McDiarmid are in the pocket, the unbreakable rock core at the center of a spinning ball of sonic kaleidoscopie. And all the things we love about them are still true: the grinning sun-warped choruses, that jangly Western lope, those confessionals cut with wry wit and crude details, set dancing down the odd knots of complex poetic daisy chains. It's just that ... well, all of it sounds better than ever this time around.

Two Wounded Birds new single 'To Be Young' out next week

“Timeless” 8/10 NME
"Mighty pleasurable listening" 4/5 The Fly
"An exotic rarity. Utterly authentic" 4/5 Q
4/5 MOJO
5/5 Artrocker

Two Wounded Birds are set to release ‘To Be Young’ next week, the first single to be taken from their brilliant self-titled debut album and you can now watch their stylish video for it online following its premiere on NME this morning.

Filmed in the beautiful 100 year-old Carlton Cinema in Westgate-on-Sea near the band’s hometown of Margate, the video - directed by Dom Bridges - boasts bold colours, slick lighting and projected cartoon images that soften the bright backdrop.

With the video’s location and style reflecting the track’s romantic and nostalgic elements, it reflects Two Wounded Birds’ vulnerable and delicate qualities whilst maintaining the rebellious nature that has become synonymous with the band’s style.

“We made the video in the Carlton Cinema in Westgate On Sea," explains guitarist Joe Stevens, "It’s one of the few places that uses analogue projection. The seats are velvet and the whole place has the feeling of another time. The cartoons are also from a different time. One of them is a journey through space and all the planets have the faces of Gods on them, they look like marbles.

"In the video at one point you can see cows leaning out of the window of a space shuttle and dancing with each other. In another two poor kids in rags go to sleep and wake up in paradise together. Reality is something you don’t consider when you’re young, things like this make total sense and the world’s a better place for it.“

Two Wounded Birds are preparing to launch into their first headline UK tour this October, and will be playing the following dates:

SEPTEMBER
1st: PORTSMOUTH Southsea Festival

OCTOBER
3rd: BRIGHTON Green Door
4th: MANCHESTER Night & Day
5th: DARLINGTON Inside Out (free entry)
7th: EDINBURGH Sneaky Pete’s
8th: GLASGOW Captain’s Rest
10th: YORK Stereo
11th: NOTTINGHAM Rescue Rooms
12th: LONDON Lexington

Two Wounded Birds debut album is out now on Holiday Friends Recording Co. and can be purchased here:
Digital: http://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/two-wounded-birds/id530097175
Vinyl: http://hmv.com/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?sku=753042
CD: http://hmv.com/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?sku=753034

For more information please contact natasha@workitmedia.net / 0207 554 2114
