Zayn Malik is "more than a boyband artist" according to new video director

Director X, who helped create Zayn Malik's new 'Like I Would' music video, has revealed that he was excited to work with the talented young hitmaker because he has so much potential.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly about Malik's roots and past as a member of One Direction, he explained that he is "more than a boyband artist" and that didn't bother him at all:

"It's not really something I was thinking about. My focus is just always on the work. I was treating him like any other artist. He's more than a boyband artist, he's definitely shown that he has what it takes to play in the major leagues."

"Not that One Direction wasn't major, but there's a disconnect with those young boy bands. Their fan base is very young and as an adult, there's just a song or two I might know from One Direction. It feels like they're on a different radar. Even like Justin Bieber, he's progressed and now he's really in the game. He's legitimately getting clubs. They're playing his songs at nightclubs. There is another level to achieve."

Malik, meanwhile, will perform live at this year's Capital FM Summertime Ball. The event is scheduled to take place on June 11 at London's iconic Wembley Stadium. Other confirmed performers include Nick Jonas, Jess Glynne, Will.i.Am, The Vamps, Years & Years, Tinie Tempah, Lukas Graham, Zara Larsson, Little Mix, Nathan Sykes, Flo Rida, Mike Posner, Craig David and Sigala.
