Zayn Malik on his statement after quitting 1D: "I don't write like that"

Singer Zayn Malik has revealed that the statement released in connection to his departure from One Direction wasn't written by him.

When he quit the boyband back in March 2015, a short message was shared that read: "I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight."

Now, talking to the ES Magazine, the "Pillowtalk" star admitted that it didn't come directly from him: "I'm going to ask you a question now - do you think I wrote that? Like, look how it's worded, i'm not a 35-year-old lawyer. I don't write like that."

Zayn Malik went onto add that leaving the group was a result of constantly being trapped under the spotlight, which was unpleasant: "I just wanted to come home and forget about the world. It was a continuous struggle because I was hurried into a situation that I didn't necessarily want to be in. Obviously I had to stop feeling like that. So one day I stopped being in the band".
