Adam Lambert gives advice to 'American Idol' hopefuls: 'If you can't control your nerves, it's not for you'

'Never Close Our Eyes' hitmaker Adam Lambert has offered some words of advice to 'American Idol' hopefuls after standing in as a judge earlier this week.

Speaking to a reporter after his stint on the vocal talent show, the superstar admitted that it's a very 'high-pressure situation', but it's a great way to see who can handle the stress and who is likely to fall apart under it:

"I remember that (auditioning) - I'm trying to give them as much as I can. I think song choice is really important obviously. This song that they do in front of us is the first song America's going to see them perform. It's a big first impression [...] a lot of the time, when I would ask them to sing something else the second song they do would be ten times better."

"If someone can't control their nerves well, this is probably not the show for them. It's a very high-pressure situation and part of being an artist is being able to keep it together."
