Adam Lambert: 'Hopefully we'll get to an era where I’m not defined as a gay artist'

Adam Lambert has opened up about his hopes of living in a society that doesn't "define" him as a gay singer.

The US artist told the Daily Star that he wishes the world will one day progress to a "post-gay" era in which defining people by their sexualities is irrelevant.

He said: "A lot has progressed – especially in the States, which was a bit behind the UK.

“Record labels and the powers that be who run the music industry have finally realised an artist being gay doesn’t matter to the buying public. That’s really nice to see.

“Hopefully one day we will get to a post-gay era when I’m not defined as a gay artist, because what I sing about is for gay, straight, black, white people. It’s for everyone."

Lambert meanwhile also spoke of his wish to collaborate with another openly gay singer, Sam Smith.

He said: "I think the world could handle it. “I’m a big fan of Sam. I think he’s great. I would be up for an all male duet if the song was great and the artist was right.

“Even if it wasn’t me recording it, I would certainly like to see that happen with someone else.”
