Fans react to petition to ban Adam Lambert's Singapore gig

Adam Lambert fans have responded with gusto after a petition emerged online that said the singer should not perform in Singapore.

The singer is due to perform in the country on December 31 at the Countdown 2016 event in Marina Bay.

However, a petition was recently started to ask the organisers to remove Lambert from the show because of his "sexualised" lifestyle and links to LGBT culture.

It wrote: "Adam Lambert is hardly the kind of performer to send off our historic Jubilee Year or to usher in the New Year.

"His track record displays a flagrant disregard for the sensitivities of his audience – including whether or not children are watching. Singaporeans can enjoy a good show without their consciences being affronted by lewd acts in the name of entertainment.

"In addition, a simple online search would reveal that he is well-known for his active promotion of a highly sexualized lifestyle and LGBT rights, both of which are contrary to mainstream Singaporean values."

However, another petition was created in retaliation to support Lambert's place on the bill.

At the time of writing, the petition that backs the singer has more votes than the other, with 15,749 supporters in total.

TV company MediaCorp, which is organising and broadcasting the programme, have showed their support for Lambert.

It said: "[The show] will be suitable for family audiences and conform with broadcast regulations."
