Adam Lambert on why he wouldn't want to play the lead in Rocky Horror remake

'Ghost Town' sensation Adam Lambert recently signed up to play the role of Eddie in the TV remake of the Rocky Horror Picture Show and he has now revealed why he wouldn't have said yes to the lead.

Lambert told Idolator that he wouldn't have been comfortable portraying Frank-N-Furter in the production and explained why:

“I kind of felt like in 2016, to be cis and playing the role of a trans character, it felt inappropriate to me. In the ‘70s, it was different. But nowadays we have such an amazing conversation that’s started about trans and gender in this world. I think casting Laverne was so brilliant. It’s so appropriate, you know what I mean?”

Back in April, he told the Daily Star that he was initially asked to play a more involved role, but knew his schedule wouldn't allow it so ended up suggesting he played Eddie: "I was asked beforehand for a different role, but my tour schedule didn't allow it. And then I was like, can't I be there for just a bit of it? Then I thought - well, what about Eddie? He only needs to be there for one song."

Lambert, meanwhile, is one of the faces of the new Macy’s American Icons campaign, which is set to launch in the USA next week. Find out more about this here
