Adam Lambert reveals when he decided not to 'conform' with the system

Adam Lambert says being told by a theatre production to remove make-up and nail polish was the point where he decided to be his "own artist".

The singer worked in musical theatre before finding fame as a singer on American Idol in 2009.

In a new interview with L/Studio Presents, the US star said she he successfully auditioned for a "local" musical.

He later came into the show glammed up, but the director pulled him aside and told him to tone things down.

Lambert complied, but the singer said he went home that day and thought "what the hell?".

He added: "I think that was the straw that broke the camel's back in me wanting to be my own artist and me rejecting being told what to do.

"And rejecting the system a little bit, and not wanting to conform anymore. I wanted to be me - I didn't want to fit into anyone's idea of what I was supposed to be, or what was right."
